About the Artist
For those that don't know me, my name is Kajuan D. Scott. If you're not sure how to pronounce that trust me, you're not alone. If you're one of those people– please, feel free to call me Simba. I am a twenty year-old photographer from Baltimore, MD and like most twenty year-olds, I've spent most of my life wondering what it is I was meant to do– or in other words, who I was meant to be.
Growing up in Baltimore city, I can't say I've had a bad life– but I also can't say I've had the best, either. Constantly on the move since a young age, I've struggled to find my place in the world. I've run through countless scenarios trying to find a career path that fit not only my personality, but my likes and interests as well. I aspired to be many things, from an architect, wanting to follow in my old man's footsteps and joining the army, Emergency Medical Technician, carpenter, to real estate connoisseur. These all sounded like good ideas at first, but my heart was never truly in it. As the years went on and my 'dream jobs' changed, three things remained true throughout this search for purpose:
1. I wanted to create.
2. I wanted to do something that not only promoted positivity, but also touch the lives of everyone I meet, not just locally but all over the globe.
3. I wanted to take my education into my own hands.
And then, I was given my first camera. Through the viewfinder, my eyes were opened to a whole new world. Finally. Finally I've found an outlet that encompasses all three criteria. Photography is what I was meant to do. I found who I was meant to be when it seemed all odds were stacked against me.
Creativity has always played a major role in my life. It is the product of a strong sense of individuality, and my individuality is something I take great pride in. I'm always looking for ways to take the road less traveled and go against the grain. Nothing great ever gets accomplished by doing things the way its always been done. Therefore, innovation is my top priority.
